Who handles an animal problem in Carpentersville?
| What's happening | Who to call |
|---|---|
| Someone was bitten or scratched by a wild animal | Wash the wound with soap and water and see a doctor right away. The health department or animal control should also be told.3 |
| A bat is loose in the house | Kane County Animal Control, (630) 232-3555, removes a bat when someone may have been exposed, such as a bat found near a sleeping person, an infant or a pet. It doesn't pick up bats outside, in an attic or in an unused basement.4 If you woke up with it in the room, or it was near a child, keep the bat and call your doctor or the health department.3 |
| A wild animal acting sick or aggressive | Carpentersville police, through the Quadcom 911 Dispatch Center's non-emergency line, (847) 428-8784. Call 911 if the animal is an immediate threat to someone.5 Village Hall, (847) 426-3439, is open weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Police call Kane County Animal Control when they need help.2 For an animal that may be rabid inside a town, Kane County's advice is to call local police or animal control.4 |
| A coyote threatening children, or on school grounds | Call 911.4 |
| A stray dog or cat | The police department or Village Hall first. Police take non-emergency calls through Quadcom, (847) 428-8784.5 Village Hall is (847) 426-3439, weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kane County Animal Control boards and gives medical care to strays found in the village, under an agreement with Carpentersville.2 Not a wildlife operator. |
| A calm animal living in your attic, walls, chimney or under the deck | Kane County Animal Control mainly handles domestic animals. For a wild animal in your house or on your property, it says to contact a licensed nuisance wildlife removal service, and a home with a bat colony needs a nuisance trapper.4 That can be this site's advertiser or anyone on the Illinois DNR list. |

Village rules worth knowing before you act
- Trapping stays within the law. Any killing, trapping or hunting of animals in the village has to be done as the law prescribes.1
- Wrap it and close it. Household garbage must be wrapped or bound and kept in an approved container, closed securely enough that nothing can scatter, spill or blow away.1
- Watch the clock. Trash can't go out to the parkway before 4 p.m. the day before pickup, and empty containers must be back in by 7 p.m. on pickup day.1
- Keep sheds and garages sound. Garages, sheds, fences and other outbuildings must be kept in good repair, so they aren't unsafe or a shelter for animals.1
- Only private companies listed. The village's online resource directory lists private wildlife-control companies under Animal Control. It doesn't list a removal service of its own.6
