Campton Hills, Illinois · Kane County · Facts checked Oct 2026
Campton Hills leaves a calm wild animal in the house to the homeowner.
On private property, animal control isn't something the Village of Campton Hills provides.1 If wildlife gets into your house and it's an emergency, it asks you to call 911.1 A wild animal that isn't judged a threat gets classified as a nuisance animal complaint.1 Getting it out is then up to the homeowner, working with a licensed wildlife professional.1
Who handles an animal problem in Campton Hills?
| What's happening | Who to call |
|---|---|
| Someone was bitten or scratched by a wild animal | Wash the wound with soap and water and see a doctor right away. The health department or animal control should also be told.9 Animal bite reports are one of the things Campton Hills police investigate.1 |
| A bat is loose inside your home | If you woke up with it in the room, or it was near a child, keep the bat and call your doctor or the health department.9 For a bite or possible exposure, the Kane County Health Department lists (630) 208-3801.6 |
| An emergency with a wild animal in the house, or an animal going after someone | Call 911.1 The village picks up a wild animal at a residence only when it's judged an immediate threat.1 |
| A stray dog or cat | Inside village limits, the Campton Hills Police Department comes before Kane County Animal Control. The village asks you to reach police through KaneComm dispatch, (630) 232-8400.1 Not a wildlife operator. |
| An injured or orphaned wild animal | A wildlife rehabilitator, which is where Kane County sends injured wildlife.7 The village's animal control page names Fox Valley Wildlife Center – Anderson Humane as a contact for wildlife questions.1 Kane County Animal Control lists Anderson Humane Wildlife Center at 847-697-2880, ext. 25,7 and Anderson Humane appears on the state's list of permitted wildlife rehabilitators.8 |
| Your address is outside village limits | In unincorporated Kane County, Kane County Animal Control handles reports itself: (630) 232-3555.7 |
| A calm animal living in your attic, walls, chimney or under the deck | A nuisance complaint, so you hire a licensed wildlife operator.1 The police department posts contact details for several area wildlife businesses as a resource, without endorsing any of them.1 That can be this site's advertiser or anyone on the Illinois DNR list. |

Rules that come from the county, and rules the village wrote
Campton Hills takes Kane County's animal control ordinance into its own code by reference (section 6-3-1).2 The code also points to a May 29, 2007, agreement with Kane County that sets fees for animal control work the county performs (section 6-3-2).2 The village's nuisance chapter adds rules of its own:
- Garbage out of animals' reach. Keeping household garbage in an outdoor container that animals can get into is a nuisance under village code (section 5-1-2(B)8).3
- No early set-out. Putting garbage or trash out for collection more than 24 hours ahead of the scheduled pickup is also a violation (section 5-1-2(B)8).3
- Dead animals can't be left lying. A carcass has to be buried, destroyed or collected within 24 hours of death (section 5-1-2(A)3).3 Dumping one in a creek, pond, well, sewer, easement or street is prohibited (section 5-1-2(B)3).3
Hilltop woods, marsh and prairie next to the village
Campton Forest Preserve, on Town Hall Road, mixes wooded hilltops with marsh and prairie in the low ground.4 Census Bureau boundary lookups show village land about a kilometer north, south and west of the preserve's map location.5 According to the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, one of its earliest prairie projects began on cropland there in 1986, and restoring the land has helped many kinds of wildlife, from amphibians to birds and mammals.4 If one of those mammals has found its way into a house, start with the guide that fits: squirrels in the attic, an animal under the deck or a raccoon in the chimney.
Which noise matches yours?
A rundown of thumps, scratches and chirps lives in noises in the attic at night. If an animal shows up in a bedroom or kitchen late in the day, after-hours help sorts urgent from not.
