Two county offices, two sets of limits
The U.S. Census Bureau lists Huntley in both McHenry County and Kane County.6 Since the village hands every animal issue except strays to the county,1 the side of the line your home is on decides which office you deal with. Here is how each office describes its limits:
- McHenry County Animal Control says it is not able to disturb healthy wildlife. It does deal with an immediate threat or public-health issue, such as exposure to a bat dwelling.3
- Kane County Animal Control mainly manages domestic animals. It won't pick up bats with no exposure, or bats found outside, in an attic or in an unused basement.4
Where must trash carts wait until pickup night?
Out of sight. The village requires garbage, recycling and yard-waste carts to stay in the garage or behind a fence or landscape screen until it's time to set them out.5 They can go to the curb no sooner than 6 p.m. the day before pickup, and they have to be taken in by 9 p.m. on pickup day.5
Still guessing what's up there?
Read noises in the attic at night before you pick up the phone, and keep after-hours help in mind for evenings and weekends. If bats are the worry, bats in the house goes further, and an animal under the deck covers what's living below the floor line.
