When wildlife gets into a Pingree Grove house, the first call is 911.

The village tells residents to call 911 if a wild animal gets into the home.1 Police step in when the animal is attacking or threatening someone. If it isn't, the village treats it as a nuisance animal complaint, and the homeowner has to bring in a licensed wildlife operator.1

When can trash carts leave the garage?

  • Not before 6 p.m. the night before pickup. Until then, trash, recycling and yard-waste carts stay inside the garage or in HOA-approved storage at the rear of the home, out of sight from the front (Code 5-3-2-1).4
  • No open garbage piles, ever. The code bans leaving uncovered piles of garbage anywhere in the village (Code 5-3-2).4

Marsh and woods at the head of Tyler Creek

The village's About page says residents name "residential living in balance with nature" as one of the town's defining traits, and it credits the large Pingree Grove Forest Preserve with adding open space beyond the village's own parks.2 That preserve, on Route 20, holds more than 300 acres of wetland, marsh and woodland at the headwaters of Tyler Creek.5 If an outdoor animal is now indoors, pick the closest match: a raccoon in the chimney, an animal under the deck or squirrels in the attic.

Heard it but haven't seen it?

Scratching and thumping with no sighting yet is what the guide to noises in the attic at night is for. For a problem that starts after dark, after-hours help lists the options.
